PROGRAMME DESIGN
This programme was developed in collaboration with Earth on Board. It consists of six in-person sessions designed for board members and senior leaders navigating an increasingly unstable, uncertain and resource-constrained world.
Through expert insights, peer discussions, practical exercises, board simulations and real-world governance cases, you’ll develop the mindset, knowledge and tools to govern effectively amid systemic disruption, ecological constraints and accelerating change.
SESSION 1: FIDUCIARY DUTY IN AN AGE OF SYSTEMIC RUPTURE Reframe the role of the director in a world of interconnected, accelerating and non-linear risks Understand how climate, nature, technology and societal shifts reshape fiduciary responsibilities Assess the implications of systemic disruption for business models and long-term value creation
SESSION 2: CLIMATE CHANGE, BIODIVERSITY LOSS & RESILIENCE Explore how natural ecosystems provide powerful lessons in resilience and adaptation Recognise nature as a strategic buffer rather than a sustainability offset
SESSION 3: OPERATING WITHIN THE PLANETARY BOUNDARIES Understand the business implications of climate, nature and planetary constraints Identify board-level red flags that require immediate strategic attention
SESSION 4: STRATEGY, CAPITAL ALLOCATION & VALUE AT RISK Integrate systemic risks into strategy, capital allocation and governance decisions Evaluate transition risks, stranded assets and value-chaine exposure through a board lens Reassess risks frameworks to account for velocity, irreversibility and systemic interconnectedness
SESSION 5: NEW BUSINESS MODELS Examine how business models must evolve to create value within planetary boundaries Distinguish between incremental sustainability initiatives and structural transformation Determine what boards must protect, transform or let go to secure long-term viability
SESSION 6: MOVING TO EARTH COMPETENT BOARD Strenghen board composition, agendas and governance practices for an era of systemic change Experience real-world board dynamics through a hig-pressure simulation Learn from a board-level transformation case and apply practical insights to your own governance context
PARTICIPANTS TESTIMONIALS

Valentine Deprez
Member of the founding family and
Board Member of Greenyard
I learned two major things: the confirmation and accompanying recognition that climate and environment are legitimate focuses for a board. And the levers to take this on: knowledge, a network of board members pursuing the same objective, and a network of experts to help you achieve that objective.

Cécile Coune
Independant Non-Executive Director
The programme offers a good mix of online and in-person sessions, great and insightful speakers, and the opportunity to voice concerns and challenges as well as opportunities ‘in a safe place.
Pierre-Henri D'haene
Head of Strategy, Transformation and Sustainability at Elia and Board member of GUBERNA
I wanted to understand what ESG (and related legislation) implies for boards – their composition, long-term vision, risks and opportunities, responsibilities, etc. The Journey resulted in a very specific, useful toolbox. As a board member, you understand why a climate policy makes sense.
