Earlier this year, Chapter Zero Brussels became part of The Shift, bringing together board members and leaders committed to strengthening climate governance in business. As part of this community, the initiative connects professionals who want to contribute to the long-term transition of companies through strong leadership and informed decision-making.
To support this mission, Maxime de Cordes recently joined as the new Lead of Chapter Zero Brussels. In this role, he will help further develop the initiative and expand its activities and network.
But who is the person behind this role? We asked Maxime a few questions to get to know him better.
Getting to know Maxime
What makes you happy?
Maxime: “I enjoy travelling, laughing, discovering new places, being on a boat, nature, art, Italy – especially Lake Como. Acting with integrity, interviewing guests for my podcast, meeting interesting and passionate people, long and meaningful conversations, sunny days, music and a great restaurant.”
What motivates you?
Maxime: “Justice, understanding, recognition and freedom.”
How would your friends describe you in three words?
Maxime: “Committed, resilient and a connector.”
What is something few people know about you?
Maxime: “I am very introspective. I dream a lot, meditate as much as I can, and often practice visualisation before important moments.”
Do you have hobbies? What do you like to do in your free time?
Maxime: “In my free time, I train at Mix Brussels, read essays and articles, and write. I’m also preparing the next episode of my podcast and the upcoming municipal council meeting. This year, I hope to spend more time hiking and learn how to sail.”
What motivated you to join Chapter Zero Brussels?
Maxime: “I was motivated to join Chapter Zero Brussels because of its action and reputation in Belgium on a topic that I consider key: addressing the long-term transition of businesses at the level of governance. I was also drawn to its international network.”
What is your favourite quote?
Maxime: “May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.” – Nelson Mandela

Looking ahead
With Maxime in this role, Chapter Zero Brussels continues its work to equip board to strengthen its mission: supporting members with the insight, dialogue and peer exchange needed to address climate challenges at the governance level.
By bringing together directors from different sectors, the initiative strengthens the ability of boards to steer companies through a changing economic and regulatory landscape.
We look forward to the conversations, collaborations and insights that lie ahead.
Welcome aboard, Maxime.
